Comfy cottage

June 2025

Overall
4

Had a wonderful stay at Egrets Walk cottage. It was just perfect for girls weekend. Clean, comfortable and tastefully furnished and decorated. Easy trip to the beach and excellent seafood all around us. Sunsets! Moonrise! The screened porch was the best of it all with a beautiful tree line, March and, yes, egrets. We are already planning a return in the fall.

Comfortable Stay in Chincoteague!

April 2025

Overall
4

This property is a snug 2-bedroom/1-bathroom pet-friendly house that was a great fit for myself, my wife, and our two dogs. It would probably serve a family with up to 2 kids reasonably well also with one of the bedroom spaces in an upstairs loft. (The only bathroom is downstairs, and it's not connected to the bedroom.) The house was clean and well-maintained with comfortable seating, bright lighting, and ceiling fans across all the rooms on the main level (also AC, although we didn't need to use it this time of year). The location is excellent for reaching destinations shoreside on Main Street and is a 5-10 minute drive from most of the restaurants on Maddox Blvd all the way down to the traffic circle. You can get to the bridge to leave the island in less than 5 minutes and the wildlife refuge in 15 minutes easy, at least during off-season traffic. The neighborhood is quiet most of the time, but you're quite close to neighbors on either side and to the road in front. The houses on either side have pets (not a big deal but if you have dogs, they may react to one another) and the proximity to Main Street means heavier vehicles may rouse you as they pass by late night/early morning, although this wasn't a big problem for us. The screened porch is lovely and affords a very nice view of a marshy backyard with a lot of bird sighting opportunities; between the porch and the marsh is a fenced yard that our dogs enjoyed running around in, although be aware the fence is not that tall so it's best for shorter dogs who don't know how to obstacle jump. If you cook some or most of your own meals when traveling, you'll want to know that the kitchen is compact, but well-stocked with all the basics (appliances, silverware/dishes, knives and other utensils) and, for a rental, an above-average pantry of staples, herbs, and spices, even tea bags. We did find that the ignition switch on the gas grill didn't work, but you can still light it if you have matches handy. There's no dishwasher but there is a washer/dryer which worked well for a load of laundry, and the bathroom was comfortable with ample hot water for our needs. The wifi is good, we had no trouble with any of our devices or with the streaming media box on the downstairs TV (there is another one upstairs that we didn't use). For furry friends, they stocked water dishes, a collection of balls and frisbees, and special pet gift bags with treats - much appreciated! Communication with the rental company was flawless and the access code for the property was delivered on time and worked without a hitch. We appreciated the range of brochures and the thoughtfully-prepared scrapbook-style guide to activities and dining on the island, which was a charming personalized touch. Overall we truly enjoyed a peaceful week on the island in this nice property.
